Lewis Capaldi reveals support from Elton John after Glastonbury performance

Written by on August 31, 2025

In a candid chat on Hits Radio Breakfast, singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi revealed that music legend Elton John reached out to him after his emotional performance at Glastonbury.

Capaldi, who recently returned to the public eye with his new single “Survive,” said that Elton John called him “the day after the first Glastonbury” to offer support. “He just phoned up and said it was a good idea to take a break and that he thinks it was… a wise decision,” Capaldi told hosts Fleur East, Will Manning, and James Barr. “He is a cool, cool guy, a cool dude.” The unexpected call came as a surprise, as Capaldi noted he didn’t know John had his phone number.

While discussing which artists had checked in on him during his time away from the spotlight, Capaldi made a surprising revelation: some celebrities who publicly claimed to have contacted him never actually did. “There were some people that said they checked in on me, who did not check in on me,” he said, without naming names. “It was bizarre, it was really weird.” He did, however, confirm that his good friend Niall Horan had been in regular contact.

Capaldi also spoke about his return to music, expressing excitement about getting back on tour, particularly in Australia, which he called his favorite place outside of Scotland. He plans to approach touring differently this time, by taking more time off between shows to maintain a healthier balance.

The Scottish star also shared a bit about his journey with therapy. He and his therapist focus on “steadying your platform” to maintain emotional stability, rather than aiming for constant happiness. “It’s not necessarily about being in a great place every day or a bad place every day but trying to be as stable as possible,” he explained. Capaldi says this stability can come from simple activities like going out for a pint, staying in, or exercising. Although he feels “unqualified” to talk about therapy, he emphasized that it has “definitely helped me a lot.”
