Beyoncé Celebrates Birthday with B’Day 20th Anniversary Release and New Latin Collaborations

Beyoncé is celebrating her birthday with a major 20th anniversary edition of B’Day, her iconic second studio album.

Originally released on September 4, 2006, B’Day was created at remarkable speed. Beyoncé, then just 25, recorded the ambitious project in only two weeks.

The album featured two appearances from her then-boyfriend JAY-Z, while its deluxe and international editions brought together an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Bun B of UGK, Slim Thug, Shakira and Alejandro Fernández.

New music and Latin collaborations

The anniversary celebration brings plenty of new material, including a series of Spanish-language tracks.

Beyoncé teams up with Colombian superstar Maluma on “Cuerpo Tumbao (Get Me Bodied),” which samples Celia Cruz’s “La Negra Tiene Tumbao.” The collaboration pays tribute to Cruz’s pride, strength and defiance.

She also joins the late Selena on “Irreemplazable (Como La Flor)” following rare approval from Selena’s estate. The track brings together two Texas icons who broke barriers and reshaped their respective genres.

Ahead of the celebration, Beyoncé also released “Morning Dew (Donk),” a track that was leaked back in 2003. A JAY-Z remix followed a month later.

B’Day gets the 4K treatment

The anniversary project goes beyond music.

Beyoncé has had the original 35mm music videos remastered and re-coloured in 4K, giving fans a fresh look at some of the era’s most memorable visuals.

Among them is Sophie Muller’s video for “Déjà Vu,” featuring JAY-Z, which is now available in its upgraded form.

The collection also includes never-before-seen photographs taken in New Orleans during the city’s post-Katrina rebuilding period. Beyoncé has deep family roots in New Orleans and wanted to use the anniversary project to honour the city.

Beyoncé looks back at B’Day

Reflecting on the album, Beyoncé said she wanted B’Day to sound “big, percussive, hard, up-tempo, and energised.”

Live instrumentation was also a key part of the recording process.

At the time, hip-hop was dominating the music landscape, but Beyoncé wanted to preserve the bridges, melodies and harmonies that had long defined R&B.

Her solution was to bring the two worlds together through sampling.

As she explained, she loved the simplicity of a strong vocal arrangement over a basic drum loop or classic guitar — but wanted the production to hit hard underneath.

Deluxe vinyl and unreleased tracks

For collectors, the Deluxe Vinyl edition arrives as a 4LP Bayou Blue set featuring a 60-page booklet and art prints.

It also includes previously unreleased material, including “Can I Watch You” with Pharrell and “My First Time,” a song originally recorded for Dangerously in Love before being left off the final album.

Several B-sides are also returning, including “Lost Yo Mind,” “Creole” and “Back Up.”

The 20th anniversary edition is available across multiple formats, including standard and deluxe vinyl, CD and a digital deluxe edition featuring 31 tracks.

Two decades after its original release, B’Day is getting a celebration as ambitious and energetic as the album itself.
