Andrea Bocelli directs and performs at historic Vatican concert

Written by on September 17, 2025

In a truly historic event, world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli co-directed and performed at the “Grace for the World” concert, a landmark musical celebration staged in the heart of Vatican City. The free concert, which made history as the first of its kind in St. Peter’s Square, was presented on Saturday, September 13, and streamed exclusively on Disney+.

Bocelli, who co-directed the event with Pharrell Williams, lent his voice to a night that showcased a unique blend of gospel, soul, hip-hop, pop, and classical music. The star-studded lineup included performances from artists such as Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Jelly Roll, and Angélique Kidjo. A global collaboration, the concert also featured a rousing rendition of “Amazing Grace” with Teddy Swims and the first-ever live performance of Bocelli’s hit track “Vivo Por Ella” with KAROL G.

Beyond the music, the evening included reflections from a diverse group of cultural, diplomatic, and sports leaders, as well as a stunning aerial drone and light show inspired by the artistry of the Sistine Chapel. The event closed the third World Meeting on Human Fraternity, celebrating the upcoming 2025 Jubilee Year.

Bocelli expressed his deep honor in being part of the initiative, stating, “As an artist, I have always believed that music is not just entertainment, but above all a universal language: a bridge capable of uniting cultures, peoples, and hearts.”

In addition to his directorial debut, Bocelli also announced his new single, a fresh version of “The Blessing,” recorded with Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes. The track is set for release later this year via Decca / Capitol Christian Music Group.
