Barry Manilow shares update on lung cancer ‘agony’

Written by on March 4, 2026

Barry Manilow has shared an update on his ‘agony’ amid treatment for lung cancer.

The legendary singer shared a video message for fans on his social media channels, three months after pausing his farewell tour due to a cancer diagnosis.

Describing the mandated break from work as “agony”, Barry, 82, admitted he had “no patience” as he waited to complete treatment.

“It’s been a long ride and since I have no patience, it’s been agony,” he said. “But I am getting stronger. And I have great doctors and wonderful friends and family, but I am so looking forward to getting back on stage.”

The Copacabana singer announced in December that doctors had found a cancerous spot on his lung when they checked him over after a bout of bronchitis.

“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed,” he told fans at the time. “It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early.”

Explaining that although he had been working out three times a day, he was still unable to “sing more than three songs in a row”, Barry told his followers his concert tour would need to be postponed and recalled his doctor telling him, “Barry, you won’t be ready to do a 90-minute show. Your lungs aren’t ready yet. You’re in great shape considering what you’ve been through, but your body isn’t ready.”

On Tuesday, the Mandy singer managed to sneak in a plug for his new album, What a Time.

“What a time it’s been,” he reflected. “Hey, that’s the name of my new album! It’s called What a Time. It comes out real soon and I can’t wait to show these songs to you.”
