Bebe Rexha is determined to showcase her authentic self with her new album, Dirty Blonde.
On Thursday, the singer-songwriter unveiled the trailer for the upcoming visual album, with the project marking her first release as an independent artist since leaving Warner Records at the start of the year.
Speaking to Billboard about her new music in an interview published Thursday, Bebe noted that some fans may be surprised to see a different side of her expressed in the project.
“I feel like a lot of people, they saw me through this lens of when I was trying to be, like, this perfect, clean-girl pop star,” she stated. “When you’re signed to a major, it’s a little bit stressful, you know? ‘Cause you’re trying to always make everybody else happy. A lot of the big songs that I had, too, were always in my computer – I’d always written them – and they were all basically ‘No’s’ from whichever label I was at.”
The In the Name of Love hitmaker is now signed with independent record company, Empire Distribution, and couldn’t be happier with the move.
“Honestly, I haven’t been able to show (this) side of me until now,” the 36-year-old added. “Now I have a label, Empire, that just is allowing me to be myself purely, and they celebrate that, and that’s really cool.”
Dirty Blonde is set to drop on 12 June.
Until then, fans can get an idea of Bebe’s new sound by viewing a four-minute mashup video featuring teasers of her upcoming tracks.
“Designed to be attention-grabbing, highly interactive and endlessly shareable, the release invites fans to clip, remix, and reimagine the project across social media while teasing the full versions of the singles still to come,” a press release reads.
