Dean Lewis splits with record label amid misconduct allegations

Written by on January 8, 2026

Dean Lewis has split with his record label amid misconduct allegations.

The Be Alright singer was accused of inappropriate behaviour by a number of young, female fans towards the end of 2024, leading to an apology from the singer last year.

Following months of seeming silence from both Dean and his record company’s camps, a spokesperson revealed this week that the Australian singer had been removed from Universal Music Australia’s books.

“We can confirm that Dean Lewis is no longer signed to Universal Music Australia or any Universal Music Group label,” the rep told Rolling Stone AU/NZ.

Dean, 38, issued his own, separate statement telling fans he was no longer working with Universal: “UMA and I have parted ways. I am no longer signed to Universal Music Australia”.

A representative for the singer told the outlet that Dean was looking forward to releasing new music this year as an independent artist.

Last October, Dean posted a seven-slide gallery featuring a typed-out apology for his “embarrassing” behaviour after he was accused of mistreating female fans.

“I understand why people are angry and disappointed after learning embarrassing details of intimate, private conversations and relationships I’ve had with consenting adults over the past decade, but I want to emphasise that none of this is illegal,” he wrote.

“The individuals leading the campaign against me have repeatedly acknowledged this, and I’m hurt by any suggestion that I’ve done things that have crossed into illegality. At the same time, I realise I’ve made an incredible mess, people are genuinely hurt, and I need to make changes.”
