Felix White says The Maccabees are ‘thinking about’ writing new music ahead of going on tour next year

Last night, Felix White joined Johnny Vaughan live on Radio X drive time.

The Maccabees’ Felix White told Radio X last night that the band are ‘thinking about’ writing new music together ahead of going on their newly announced tour next year, but confirms that nothing is in the works at the moment. Felix also teased a potential co-headline tour with Jamie T in the future!

Felix White says The Maccabees are ‘thinking about’ writing new music ahead of going on tour next year

JV: “Big question. Can we expect new music? Is there an album on the way, or is that ‘watch this space’ as well?”

FW: “That’s a very ‘watch this space.’ We are talking about it, but we’ll have to see where it goes. The reason we’re doing these shows is because if there’s not, it will be amazing, and if there is, it will be even amazinger!”

JV: “Can I ask you, so when you have broken up… No, but doing something like collaborative. It’s one thing to go on tour and do the tunes you’re used to and to celebrate that kind of brings you together.”

FW: “Yeah.”

JV: “But writing together and doing more collaborative things, that can bring its own sort of friction. Is that why? Do you know what I mean? ‘I don’t like that line, I like that line.’ I don’t know how you write, but sometimes that can…”

FW: “No, definitely. I think that’s why it was so beautiful this year, because we were, for the first time, free of any tension. Just looking back at our catalogue of The Maccabees…”

GW: “Just play the songs.”

FW: “Just play the songs! And the nice thing about us is that we haven’t got one record that’s, like, way more famous than the other three, right? You can disagree with me, but you can do the whole sort of 15 years of the band almost in like a chunk, where people aren’t just waiting for the first record. So, we can do a whole catalogue of a band growing up, which has been quite a nice perspective on it.”

JV: “Early this year, Bloc Party and Interpol announced a co-headline tour together. Any bands you would consider touring with? Who are you friendly with? Blossoms like you, because I had a chat with them about it.”

FW: “Yeah, Blossoms want to do an indie-vention with me, don’t they? Yeah, get me away from sport. Bloc Party and Interpol is a good one. I think the one that would really work is us and Jamie T. That would be pretty good.”

JV: “Yes, that’s a really good idea.”

FW: “We talked about for a while, but maybe we could even be Jamie T’s band? But he’s got a very good band, so don’t want to do them out of a job. But yeah, maybe The Maccabees and Jamie T touring together.”
