Olivia Rodrigo reflects on ‘awful’ experience of U.S. government using her music for ICE video

Olivia Rodrigo still can’t understand why United States government officials used her music to promote Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.
Last November, the singer-songwriter’s song All-American B**ch was used as the soundtrack for a clip posted to Instagram by the White House and Department of Homeland Security which showed ICE officers detaining and deporting people from America.
At the time, Olivia called out President Trump’s administration for using her music to “promote your racist, hateful propaganda”.
Reflecting on the decision to fight back in an interview for British Vogue, the Vampire hitmaker described the experience as “awful”.
“That was awful. Dystopian,” she told the outlet. “The way that ICE is ripping apart communities and terrorising people is so disturbing. It’s a really sad, scary time.”
Previously, Olivia also condemned Trump’s controversial raids in her hometown of Los Angeles.
The pop star, whose paternal grandparents came to the U.S. from the Philippines, noted she was “deeply upset” by the decision.
“I’ve lived in L.A. my whole life and I’m deeply upset about these violent deportations of my neighbours under the current administration,” the 23-year-old wrote on Instagram Stories. “L.A. simply wouldn’t exist without immigrants.”
Elsewhere in the chat with British Vogue, Olivia teased her upcoming third album.
The Good 4 U star revealed the project is around “70 per cent” finished, with the tracks inspired by a recent stay in London.
“I’ve found a lot of inspiration from being in London,” she smiled. “I’ve spent so much time here over the course of making this album. It has a lot of songs that are London vibes, about experiences that I’ve had here.”
Olivia reportedly split from British actor Louis Partridge late last year after two years of dating. She kept coy about the rumoured breakup during the interview.
