Olivia Rodrigo slams President Trump’s immigration raids on Los Angeles

Olivia Rodrigo has spoken up against U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration raids on her Los Angeles hometown.

The pop star, whose paternal grandparents came to the U.S. from The Philippines, condemned the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, which have sparked protests that resulted in Trump sending in the Marines and the National Guard.

“I’ve lived in LA my whole life and I’m deeply upset about these violent deportations of my neighbors under the current administration,” Rodrigo said in a statement shared on her Instagram Stories. “LA simply wouldn’t exist without immigrants.”

President Trump’s efforts to deport undocumented individuals living in the U.S. have caused outrage due to high profile cases in which individuals may have been wrongly targeted with no due process.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has slammed Trump’s actions in sending in the military to quell the protests.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote that US Marines “shouldn’t be deployed on American soil facing their own countrymen to fulfill the deranged fantasy of a dictatorial President.”
