Record breaking The Fate of Ophelia to battle with HUNTR/X’s Golden to retain Number 1

Written by on October 13, 2025

After a record-breaking week where Taylor Swift took home the biggest week 1 for a single in four years, the track in question The Fate of Ophelia is looking to secure a second week at the top in today’s Official Chart First Look. The single amassed over 132,000 chart units in its first seven days and remains the outright frontrunner.

As Taylor scored a home run last week, securing first, second and third positions for singles; Opalite (4) and Elizabeth Taylor (5) could find themselves sitting in the Top 5 again.

But is there a return to the top for an old favourite? Following closely behind is HUNTR/X and their track Golden (2). Having topped the charts for a total of eight weeks, the popular release was overtaken by Olivia Dean’s Man I Need in late September. Since then, the track has been looking to surge back to the summit and is aiming to make its move this week.

The newly formed girl group could also see their track How It’s Done re-enter the charts (12). Having peaked at Number 29 in July, it may secure its highest position yet.

And the Top 3 could be completed by the song that knocked Golden off its perch. Man I Need (3), currently leapfrogs Opalite as it looks to take the bronze.

The Brit also sees two other tracks aiming to break Top 10 with Nice To Each Other (7) and So Easy (To Fall In Love) (9).

With her Mayhem Ball Tour in full swing, Lady Gaga may find the anthemic The Dead Dance set foot in the Top 20 once more (20).

The highest new entry this week could come from Sienna Spiro with her latest offering, Die On This Hill (24). The English singer-songwriter is on course to secure her maiden charting single.

After a surprise announcement last week, the super duo of JISOO and ZAYN may see their catchy hit EYES CLOSED also break the Top 40 (25).

Chappell Roan and Pink Pony Club see a strong rise, currently up five places so far (30).

After claiming his first Top 40 single last week with Phantom, EsDeeKid and Rico Ace’s vibrant song could climb ever higher, currently moving three positions up the charts (33).

Off the back of Amazon Prime’s latest Songline episode celebrating the creation of Play, Ed Sheeran sees his single Sapphire from that record potentially shoot back into the Top 40, climbing a strong nine positions (34).

PinkPantheress dropped Fancy Some More? last Friday, a remix of her Mercury Prize nominated record, Fancy That and she could see one of the tracks off the initial release Stateside, chart in the Top 40 for the very first time (38).

And finally, Fred again.. and OGdub, the second song of his ten-week release streak, currently sits at Number 40.
