Tom Cruise is stepping out in style a month after Paramount Pictures confirmed Top Gun 3 was in the works at the studio.
The actor, 63, was seen touching down at the London Heliport on Thursday, May 14, following the news that his box office-breaking 2022 hit Top Gun: Maverick would be getting a follow-up film.
He was later seen walking through the airport terminal, greeting airport staff. Cruise wore a collared black jacket and black slacks, paired with aviator sunglasses.
Josh Greenstein, co-head of Paramount Pictures, announced on April 16 during a presentation at CinemaCon that Top Gun 3 was “officially in development with a script underway,” with Cruise set to reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
While the actor didn’t join the stage for the presentation, he did appear in a video, saying, “The future looks pretty great from here” while atop the iconic water tower on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles.
Cruise’s last public appearance was at CinemaCon, two days before the Top Gun announcement, as he joined the stage for Warner Bros. presentation of Digger, his new comedy for Revenant director Alejandro G. Iñárritu (in theaters Oct. 2).
In 2022, Cruise returned to the Top Gun franchise 36 years after the original was released in theaters. Maverick earned over $1 billion at the global box office and became the highest-grossing movie of Cruise’s career.
Though a release date for the sequel has yet to be announced, a script has reportedly been in the works for over two years.
“It’s already in the bag,” Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote and produced Maverick, shared of whether coming up with another idea was “harder to crack” in a May 2025 episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad Confused podcast.
