Brian May Says Queen Won’t Tour Again, But Hints at Immersive Future

Written by on October 6, 2026

Queen guitarist Brian May says the legendary band will not embark on another traditional world tour, choosing instead to focus on family, personal freedom and other interests.

The 79-year-old musician revealed that he decided about 18 months ago that he no longer wanted to tour. May said the demands of being on the road had become too restrictive, particularly after a close family friend died while he was touring in the United States.

“I love to play, I love to travel, but the trade-off is sacrificing your freedom,” May said in an interview with The Times. He added that he wants to spend more time with his wife, actress Anita Dobson, his grandchildren and his work in astrophysics.

Since 2005, May and drummer Roger Taylor have continued performing under the Queen name, working with singers Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert following the death of frontman Freddie Mercury. Queen and Lambert completed their most recent tour in February 2024.

Later that year, May suffered a minor stroke that temporarily affected the use of his left arm. He has since made a full recovery.

Although traditional touring appears to be over, May and Taylor are considering new ways to bring Queen’s music to audiences.

Taylor suggested creating something similar to ABBA’s virtual Voyage experience in London, while May said his visit to the Sphere in Las Vegas inspired him to imagine an immersive Queen production.

May believes such an experience could allow Queen to “conquer time and space,” although he remains cautious about the role of artificial intelligence in making it possible.

For now, Queen fans may have to say goodbye to the band’s traditional stadium tours—but a very different kind of Queen experience could still be on the horizon.
