Maren Morris Is Still Surprised Fans Show Up for Her Shows

Maren Morris says she is still surprised to see so many people turning out for her concerts, especially after the changes she has made throughout her career.

The “My Church” singer, 36, has lost some fans in recent years after speaking publicly about political and social issues and moving away from traditional country music toward a more genre-free style.

“I still sometimes walk out and wonder, ‘How are all these people here?’” Morris told Rolling Stone. She explained that she was taught from a young age that there was only one way to succeed in music. Now that she is doing things her own way, she remains amazed that audiences continue to support her.

Morris also said she has embraced performing in smaller venues and does not consider moving away from arenas to be a failure.

“It sometimes has nothing to do with you; it’s just the way the world has changed,” she said. “To still give your fans the experience of seeing you and giving them the escape, I think you can bite the bullet and play the smaller venue.”

After touring with her album Dreamsicle, Morris said she is focused on protecting the work she has built throughout her career.

“This is my life’s work. I really want to put it somewhere that it will be cared for. And if that has to look smaller, so be it. I’ll have more care for it.”
