Sir Cliff Richard marked his 86th birthday by celebrating with devoted fans at a special afternoon tea event at London’s InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane.
Hosted by radio legend Ken Bruce, the gathering offered an exclusive preview of the music icon’s upcoming 48th studio album, Only Number Ones, with guests getting the chance to hear several new recordings before the album’s release.
Fans who secured their places by pre-ordering the record enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea featuring sandwiches, scones and specially created desserts, as well as photo opportunities with Sir Cliff himself. The singer was also presented with a birthday cake to mark the occasion.
Among the highlights was an exclusive preview of “My Sweet Lord”, alongside Cliff’s new version of Roy Orbison’s classic “Oh, Pretty Woman”. Originally a UK Number One hit for Orbison 62 years ago this week, the track was officially released by Cliff on his birthday.
Speaking about the celebration, Sir Cliff said: “I am so thrilled to have been able to celebrate my 86th birthday with my fans. They have always been very special to me and are the reason why I continue to make music and tour.”
He continued: “They helped me all of these years to get to number one, and it is great that I am now able to give back with my own versions of number one tracks that I personally love.”
Set for release on 27 November 2026 across major streaming platforms and retailers, Only Number Ones sees Cliff put his own distinctive spin on chart-topping hits spanning eight decades.
Produced by Sam Hollander and Josh Edmondson, the album features reworkings of songs originally made famous by The Beatles, The Everly Brothers, The Monkees, Elvis Presley and Harry Styles. The collection will also include a new 2026 recording of the festive favourite “White Christmas”.
Fans will also be able to get their hands on a Deluxe Edition, featuring the new recordings alongside all 14 of Cliff’s original UK Number One singles. The collection spans his 1959 hit “Living Doll” through to festive classics such as “Mistletoe and Wine”.
The release celebrates Cliff’s remarkable legacy as the third best-selling artist in UK singles chart history, while giving fans a fresh take on some of the biggest songs ever to top the charts.
