Michael Jackson Leads the UK’s Biggest Albums of 2026 as His Legendary Hits Make a Comeback

Written by on October 14, 2026

Michael Jackson has taken the lead in the race for the UK’s biggest album of 2026 as the third quarter draws to a close, reaffirming the lasting power of his legendary musical legacy.

Following the release of the highly anticipated biopic Michael in April, interest in the King of Pop’s iconic catalogue has soared. His 2005 compilation album, The Essential Michael Jackson, has accumulated more than 508,000 UK chart units so far this year, securing the top spot in the year-to-date rankings. The achievement puts Jackson ahead of Olivia Dean’s acclaimed The Art of Loving at Number 2 and Harry Styles’ Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. at Number 3.

Jackson’s remarkable resurgence extends well beyond the top position. Two of his most celebrated albums, Thriller at Number 16 and Bad at Number 20, have also returned to prominence, giving the late superstar three albums in the UK’s year-to-date Top 20.

Meanwhile, American pop star Olivia Rodrigo continues to make significant gains on the chart. Her latest album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, has climbed eight places since the previous official update to reach Number 5, with more than 305,000 UK chart units accumulated in 2026. Her previous chart-topping projects, SOUR at Number 26 and GUTS at Number 29, are also maintaining strong positions within the Top 40.

British rock icons Oasis are enjoying renewed interest in their back catalogue as anticipation builds around the announcement of their sold-out Live ’27 reunion tour. Their greatest-hits collection, Time Flies… (1994–2009), sits at Number 10, while the legendary (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? ranks at Number 19 and their debut album, Definitely Maybe, rounds out the chart at Number 40.

Completing the year-to-date Top 40 is rising British singer-songwriter SIENNA SPIRO, whose debut release, Visitor, makes a fresh appearance at Number 39. The project features her breakout hit Great Expectation, which earned the emerging star her first Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart earlier this autumn.

With Michael Jackson leading the race and established stars alongside emerging artists continuing to attract listeners, the UK’s biggest-album rankings of 2026 reflect the enduring influence of music across generations.
