U2 Announce 2027 World Tour and New Album Carnaval De Luz

Written by on October 15, 2026

U2 have announced the first six dates of a major world tour for 2027, marking their return to stadium shows with concerts across Latin America and the release of their first album of entirely new material in nearly a decade.

The Irish rock legends, fronted by Bono, alongside guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr, will kick off the Carnaval de Luz Presents: The Greatest Show on Earth World Tour in Mexico City on 23 February 2027.

The tour will support their forthcoming 16th studio album, Carnaval De Luz, due for release on 13 November 2026. Further dates are expected to be announced across Europe, North America and their native Ireland.

Speaking about the tour, the band said: “‘The Greatest Show on Earth’? Now that’s a throwdown.”

They continued: “It’s a dare, to ourselves as much as anyone, to try and have the best night of anybody’s life.

“A bit of showman, a bit of shaman, a riot of color, unreasonable guitar, bass and drums, and tunes you can hold onto. Because if people are gonna show up, we certainly are.”

The tour takes its name from U2’s latest single, “The Greatest Show on Earth”, the third track released from the upcoming album, following “Street of Dreams” and “Silencio”.

The new record will be the band’s first collection of entirely original studio material since 2017’s Songs of Experience.

In recent years, U2 have revisited their extensive back catalogue while continuing to release new music. In February, they released the EP Days of Ash, followed by Easter Lily in April, marking their first new recordings since 2023’s Songs of Surrender, which featured reimagined versions of songs from throughout their career.

In 2024, the band also released How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb, a collection of previously unreleased recordings from the sessions for their Grammy-winning 2004 album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.

The first leg of the 2027 tour will feature six concerts across three countries, with two shows each in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. U2 will open at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City before heading to São Paulo and Buenos Aires in March.

Additional performances are expected to be announced, including shows in Ireland, although dates and venues have yet to be confirmed.

The stadium tour follows the band’s acclaimed U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency in Las Vegas, which ran from September 2023 until March 2024. The shows centred on their landmark 1991 album Achtung Baby, featuring classics including “One”, “Mysterious Ways” and “Even Better Than the Real Thing”, alongside other fan favourites.

Mullen Jr was absent from the residency while recovering from surgery, with Dutch drummer Bram van den Berg stepping in to perform.

With a career spanning nearly five decades, U2 have sold more than 170 million records worldwide. Their catalogue includes celebrated albums such as The Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, All That You Can’t Leave Behind and No Line on the Horizon.

The band are behind some of rock’s most enduring anthems, including “With or Without You”, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, “Where the Streets Have No Name”, “Beautiful Day”, “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “Pride (In the Name of Love)” and “Vertigo”.

U2 have won 22 Grammy Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.

Their forthcoming album will also feature collaborations with Spanish singer Rosalía and the late country music legend Dolly Parton. Rosalía appears on “The Mirror Maker”, while Parton features on “Torn”.

The 12-track collection will also include “La Reina”, “Superficiality”, “Glorify” and “Midnight Sunshine”.

With new music on the way and a major stadium tour planned, U2 are preparing to enter their next chapter with a return to the live stage on a global scale.
