The Rolling Stones Are Working on New Music, Mick Jagger’s Collaborator Reveals

Written by on October 12, 2026

The Rolling Stones are actively working on new music, according to saxophonist Courtney Pine, who recently joined frontman Mick Jagger for a recording session. However, it remains unclear whether the material will be part of a new Rolling Stones album.

Pine, who played on Jagger’s 1993 solo album Wandering Spirit, shared the news during an appearance on BBC Radio 3’s Private Passions on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

“I’ve just done another session a couple of weeks ago with him [Jagger] for The Rolling Stones,” Pine revealed.

The saxophonist also praised the legendary singer, describing him as an extraordinary artist and reflecting on the differences between the world of pop music and his own musical background.

Recalling his previous work with Jagger, Pine explained that he initially recorded a version of a track for one of the singer’s solo albums, only for it to be discarded. He later received a call asking him to travel to Los Angeles to record another version of the same album, an opportunity he enthusiastically accepted.

Mick Jagger Continues Writing New Songs

In June, Jagger revealed that he was already working on new material that could potentially be included on a future Rolling Stones album or recorded by other artists.

Speaking to NME, the singer was asked whether he had another album in him following the release of Foreign Tongues earlier that summer. Jagger suggested that another record—or even a trilogy of albums—could be possible, although he acknowledged that not every song he writes is suitable for the Stones.

He explained that some compositions might be better suited to other performers, mentioning the Red Hot Chili Peppers as an example. Jagger emphasized that he remains open-minded about where his music might end up and believes that every new idea is worth exploring.

Rolling Stones Tour Plans Remain Uncertain

While the prospect of new music has raised hopes among fans, the band’s return to the road remains uncertain.

In a recent interview with NME, guitarist Ronnie Wood explained that both he and Jagger are eager to perform live again, but Keith Richards is currently less enthusiastic about touring.

“I know Mick is busting to go, and Keith is not busting to go. And you’ve got to have everybody’s enthusiasm to do it,” Wood said.

The guitarist added that he is ready to return to the stage whenever the band decides to move forward, although no tour plans have been confirmed.

For now, the Rolling Stones appear to be keeping their creative momentum alive, even as questions remain about their next album and whether fans will see the legendary group perform live again.
