Carly Rae Jepsen Left Scooter Braun to Follow Her Own Musical Path

Carly Rae Jepsen has opened up about her decision to part ways with manager Scooter Braun, saying she wanted to take her career in a less mainstream direction.

The singer teamed up with Braun after the huge success of her 2011 hit “Call Me Maybe” and a co-sign from Justin Bieber, whose career was also managed by Braun at the time. Jepsen signed a joint recording deal with Braun’s Schoolboy Records and Interscope Records.

However, in 2023, Jepsen became one of several artists who stopped working with Braun. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 40-year-old singer said there are no hard feelings between them.

“I knew that I was on a different journey than he understood,” Jepsen explained. She said she wanted to pursue something “a little bit less mainstream” and felt it was time to move on.

“I felt like it was just going to be a little bit easier to shake hands, walk away and go let my freak flag fly,” she added.

Jepsen also revealed that she took one of Braun’s employees with her when she left his management team.

Braun eventually parted ways with several major artists, including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and Hilary Duff. In 2024, he stepped away from artist management after 23 years. He later became CEO of HYBE America but left that position in 2025.

Jepsen remains signed to Interscope and is preparing to release her new double album “Day and Night” on September 18.

The project continues her tradition of releasing companion albums, following “The Loneliest Time” (2022) and “The Loveliest Time” (2023), as well as “Dedicated” (2019) and “Dedicated Side B” (2020).
