Olivia Rodrigo has publicly expressed her support for a woman who has accused seven former Cornell University students of sexual assault, becoming the latest celebrity to speak out about the case.
The woman, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, filed a lawsuit on September 16 against Cornell University and seven former students. She alleges that she was pressured to consume ketamine and became incapacitated before being sexually assaulted at the Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024.
Doe later reported the alleged assault to campus police. According to reports, she told investigators, “I can say with 100% confidence I was raped.”
However, Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten decided not to pursue criminal charges or conduct an additional investigation after reviewing a summary of her statement prepared by campus police.
Rodrigo addressed the case in an Instagram Story on Sunday, October 4, strongly criticizing institutions she believes fail to protect women.
“Shame on Cornell and on every institution who protects rapists and abusers over women,” the singer wrote. “I stand with Jane Doe. Her bravery reverberates across the country and the crimes against her will not go unpunished.”
Rodrigo concluded her message by emphasizing the importance of accountability and institutional change.
“What she lived through matters, and so does the failure of those who could have intervened but chose not to,” she wrote. “She deserves answers, consequences, and lasting change.”
The allegations remain part of an ongoing civil case, and the defendants have not been found guilty of criminal wrongdoing.
